Wake-up call and lingering thoughts.

Yesterday night, after football training, a couple of my team mates and I were just chilling out as usual before going home. One of my team mates, seemed really distressed and then I asked her about her friend who she had posted of a few hours before with the caption saying she was missing and if anyone knows of her whereabouts that they should get in contact with my friend or the girl’s mum.

It was me and three of my other team mates who were sitting in one group, and Sam, the one who’s friend had gone missing, were telling us about her friend. Her name was Cyrish Magalang, 20 years old and a graduate from University of Santo Tomas (UST), she was on the way home from work when she had gone missing. Not long after she had told us about her, the missing girl’s uncle texted Sam saying “Sam, bad news, wala na si Cyh” (Sam, bad news, Sam isn’t around anymore). In that moment, I got the worst goosebumps and I saw in my friend’s eyes how shocked she was and didn’t know what to do. I sat there in silence, I didn’t know what to say to my friend because there are no words that can try to cheer someone up after such news.

I got home, searched Cyh’s name on twitter and there, I had discovered what had happened to her. She was found at 7:30am, dead, the following morning in a grassy field with 49 stabbed wounds. The suspects were identified as tricycle drivers who were drug addicts. I hope that Cyrish Magalang receives the justice that she deserves. She’s only 2 years older than me. It could have been anyone but she was very unfortunate to have been at the wrong place, at the wrong time. Her death was not her fault, but there are always going to be horrible people in the world who have no conscience and commit such crimes just because they can. News reports say that the suspects may have attempted to rape her but she fought back which resulted into stabbing her to death instead. I hope that she’s resting in peace, and that those people who committed the crime, deserve what they get. Intentional or not, she didn’t deserve to die like that.

I may not have known her, or heard of her until yesterday, but I am deeply sorry that it had to happen to her. It shouldn’t happen to anyone at all. Knowing someone who was close to her was enough to make me realize how short life really is. I complain a lot, but from now on, I’ll do my best to be more appreciative and grateful of the things I have and to still be alive.

Seeing people complain about such shallow things really irritate me. Some people complain non-stop about such stupid things, such as how shitty the weather is, how upset they are because their bf/gf don’t reply to their texts, how jealous they are because their bf/gf posted a photo of themselves with another person - doing absolutely nothing, complain about how their ‘yayas’/helpers/drivers etc. don’t know how to speak English or somehow do something they’re ordered to do incorrectly, and so on. Some people actually complain about fuck all 24/7 and I’m sorry if you read this and feel guilty but I think we all need a wake-up call.

Also, the storm going on in America right now has killed over 50 people and destroyed so much in just a few days is devastating. People need to realize that their are more important things going on and be more thankful of what they have, where they are, and that they’re still breathing. I know that this post is probably just going to get ignored but I needed to put my thoughts somewhere.

I wish that people who pay more attention to the current events, be more aware of their surroundings and be more grateful, instead of being so self-absorbed and complain about the most ridiculous things. We don’t need to wait for something tragic to happen and THEN start to be more appreciative. It doesn’t hurt to just stop, think and be happy every once in awhile.

RIP Cyrish Magalang, I didn’t know you but you didn’t deserve what happened to you. RIP to the people who died recently because of storm Sandy. To the people who have lost someone important in their lives, it’s hard, but it’s going to be okay.
